My prayer for this journey:

Lord, in an act of my will, I place all my uncertainties in my heart upon your shoulders. Help me to remember that my circumstances are well within Your sovereign control and that You have offered me Your strength to endure every challenge that comes my way. In faith's confidence, I appropriate Your strength for this trip.

The words of John 10:27 became more real to me than ever before on a February Sunday of this year.

I have felt so blessed to be a part of God's work in the prisons for the past seven years and my desire is to serve my Lord and Savior with all my heart for the rest of my life. I know that the safest place to be is in the center of God's will. With a sincere heart I prayed this prayer that Sunday morning, "Lord, if there is anything else that you want me to do in your work please show me and with your guidance and strength I will follow your call."

My phone rang at 6:30 am the next morning and a missionary to the Philippines was on the other end. She began to share her heart and a request for me to come to the Philippines to work with the women missionaries in four different cities, teaching about prayer, faith, forgiveness and the great love of God.

John 10:27 became alive to my heart that morning, "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me." Jack and I feel that this is a very clear call. We began to pray for direction and the same love and compassion for the Philippine people as we have for inmates. I have found myself weeping for those people whom I have never met. Oh how I pray that God's love will radiate from us to them as we work among them for thirteen days.

With war on the horizon, terrorists working out of the Philippines, my husband's plant closing and not to mention, the fear of flying, Isaiah 41: 8-10 has given us peace that He will be with us. The greatest fear would be to stand before our Lord one day and He would say, "Why did you not go?" I feel that the day will come soon that we will not be able to go to these countries to share the gospel. Jack and I count it a privilege to be called in this day to share His great love.

We will fly on January 30, 2003 and return on February 12, 2003. Rev. Mark Marshall (our son in law) and Renee Biddy will accompany us on our trip. Mark Marshall and a Philippine missionary will minister in Dipolog City, Philippines during the stay.

To the right, you will find our itinerary of the work before us. We cherish your prayers for our safety and the divine presence of His Spirit to be upon us as we serve in the Philippines.

Until He Comes,
Jack and Scottie Barnes
